2008 Youth Circus Season in Review
Part 3

  CircEsteem

Chicago, IL

Chicago's CircEsteem is famous for their exciting German Wheel Acts.

CircEsteem’s mission is to unite youth from diverse racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds and help them build self-esteem and mutual respect through the practice of circus arts.

Our approach to promoting confidence and cooperation is action based: focused development of circus skills while having fun together. We accomplish this by providing a positive environment that emphasizes goals, teamwork, and performance. Our mission of uniting youth and empowering them through circus arts is fulfilled in every class and is highlighted in every circus we perform.

Circus Minimus Mission Statement

Circus Minimus gives communities a chance to runaway and join the circus, and still be home for dinner! The goal of our circus is to create opportunities for each collaborator (teacher, student, artist or intern) to discover and share their unique gift. In this way, the circus arena allows each participant their “moment in the sun.” Circus Minimus artist/educators work cooperatively within any community for this goal.

Circus skills performed by our youth, always a fun way to stay fit!

Mission Statement

Circus Day Foundation teaches the art of life through circus education. We work to build character and expand community for youth of all ages, cultures, abilities and backgrounds. Through teaching and performance of circus skills, we help people defy gravity, soar with confidence and leap over social barriers, all at the same time.

Circus Day Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. We offer classes and performances for children and adults at the City Museum in downtown St. Louis and throughout the St. Louis area.

Why Circus?

Circus is a performing art that children and adults appreciate and value. Circus Day Foundation uses circus arts to teach and inspire children of all ages and backgrounds. Our performances entertain and thrill audiences of all generations with the ageless delight of the circus.

Even more so than other sport, cultural or artistic activities, circus is not associated with any particular race or gender. Many arts or sports activities have either a gender or race bias. Circus combines both art and sports aspects, involving kids who might not normally consider doing anything artistic and kids who might not generally attempt anything physical. Circus has an across-the-board appeal that other sports and artistic fields do not have.

Now in it's 55th season, the Wenatchee Youth Circus performs
under the open sky.

The Wenatchee Youth Circus has grown to the extent that it is considered to be one of the 4 top nonprofessional troupes in the Nation. Over the years has played to audiences totaling over 2 million people in the western states from California to Alaska & in Canada as well averaging 12,000 miles a year. The show has been so well received that many bookings are repeat datings, often made on the spot.

The shows have been given in football & baseball fields as well as fair & rodeo grounds, indoor arenas, in the center of the Los Angeles County Race Track & the Kingdome in Seattle. Bleachers for the audience have varied from elaborate covered concrete grandstands to mere logs or bales of hay. As with professional performers, the circus people are acutely aware of good audiences. They give of themselves with joy & zest; a warm reception is the greatest reward.
